GCSE to A Level Maths Transition Sessions

Starting A level Maths requires a deep understand of topics that students may not have fully grasped at GCSE.

This Summer course will focus on the topics that students need to be confident with so the A Level is start on the right track.

Trigonometry Students will need to be able to instantly create equations for right angled triangles and have learnt for the formulae for non-right angles ones as these are no longer provided at A Level.

Vector Problems These are far more complicated at A Level so students will need to comfortable with the most difficult GCSE ones.

Quadratics Solving quadratics using various methods is a key foundation on which most of the A Level sits and students will struggle if they have any issues with these

Surds and Rationalising Another grade 8/9 topic at GCSE that is required as a basic foundation in A Level

Volume and Surface Area This is not covered at all in the A Level but many exam questions require you to know Area and Volume formula before you can even start them

Preparing for the 2nd Year of A Level Maths

It is a huge jump transitioning from the first year to the second year and students often underestimated the increase in challenge.

This summer course aims to prepare students and give them a boost for the year ahead.

Trigonometry Review Looking at Trig Identities and equations, an essential foundation for year 2
Logs and Exponentials A topic many students struggle with but is essential for many parts of year 2
Differentiation & Integration Another essential Foundation that is worth practicing
Statistics Looking at interpolation and histograms.
Also going over Binomial Distribution and Hypothesis testing
Mechanics Looking at the more complex problems that prepare you for the year 2 situations
Vectors Looking at all the vector topics from pure and Mechanics
Functions and Graphs Going Over the year 1 transformations and introduction the year 2 ones and looking at the modulus function
Radians Introducing the angle unit that forms a core part of A Level Maths
Algebraic Fractions A review of the GCSE topic that is an essential foundation for the second year topic of partial fractions
Large Data Set Reviewing the large data to help with the questions in statistics about this
Geometry Lines and Circles A topic that is not revisited during the second year but is tested in the final papers
